Credit analyst jobs are a great area to be in at the moment. Following the banking crisis, banks are not lending as freely as they were and are looking for greater security. They are analyzing their customers carefully before advancing credit. It is not easy for companies. They face strong competition for business. With bad debts increasing they cannot afford to become exposed to customers who cannot pay. Credit analysts are performing a vital service advising their employers when to do business and when it is better to decline it. Jobs analyzing the ability of people and companies to pay when due will make a major contribution in the future.

Credit analysts will look at a variety of information in the performance of their jobs. They will normally view a customers’ credit rating before starting to trade if it involves advancing credit. For an existing customers the credit analyst will evaluate the track record to see if payments been made on time. This could be positive but in a quickly changing market current information about the on-going ability to pay is also important. The credit analyst may advise changing the credit terms if there are concerns or possible future risks.

Imagine yourself with a human resources career! If you want more information about the opportunities in human resources then keep reading. If you enjoy working with people then human resources is a great place to be. To begin you will need to understand the basics but as you develop you will have a number of choices. You might want to specialise in training and development or you may enjoy analyzing all the information about employees and advising management.

Human resources can be an area that is less affected by the ups and downs of the economy. When employment opportunities are good you may find yourself focusing on recruitment, retention and the development of your employees. In a downturn, the human resources department will become involved in making people redundant and your position could be more secure than in other departments. If you want a secure role then you may want to stay away from the training and development side of human resources. Traditionally many companies cut back their training budgets in a recession so you might find this type of human resources career less secure. These days there are very few jobs that are totally secure.

One great advantage to developing a career in human resources is the number of opportunities it presents. Nearly every company with employees needs this help so you will have a vast number of potential employers who will need your skills and experience. Whilst smaller companies cannot afford a human resources department or even a full time person specialising in human resources even these companies need this advise. You could therefore act as a consultant to these companies advising them on human resources.

In many countries employers can be sued by employees, potential employees and ex employees and the costs of mistakes can be very high. Employers therefore need to have effective advice. You can be the person providing this.

If you’re like most people in big organisations at some point your boss gave your objectives. In many cases these won’t be looked at for several months. In the mean time your boss changes your priorities. Then, when its appraisal time time your boss tells you that you didn’t achieve your goals because the goal posts were moved. This then justifies a small or no pay rise for the next period.

Appraisals and goals set by your boss rarely work to an employee’s advantage. The only way to get ahead is to focus on getting a promotion or your job upgraded. This means you set your objectives on this and then work to achieve this. You will have to keep your boss happy by doing what they want but your own objectives must be more important to you. Plan what you need to do. Find out what you need to know. Find out who you need to impress and how you can get the experience you need so that when an opportunity comes up you are the best qualified candidate.

Keep your focus on the shorter term. If all your goals are long it is very easy to procrastinate. Thinking that you will get round to something later is rarely a successful strategy.

What are you doing at work today? Are you going the same as yesterday? Are you just doing the things that your boss has given you to do? What will you be doing tomorrow? Unless you stop and think you will be doing the same tomorrow. With the same attitude. With the same aim of getting through the day without being fired or laid off.

Whilst we are at work we have a choice. We have two choices. We can focus on that day only and the work that we need to do that day. Or, we can think about our career, our goals and our dreams. When we think about these as well we can have an entirely different day. Then when we are doing the work we can think about how it ties in with our own, personal plans. There are many ways in which we can then use the work of that day to fit in with our longer term plans. Future posts will show how you can use the tasks and work of every day to serve you and your goals.

Can you think of ways that you can make your job work for you? For most people it’s the other way round.
